••Victor Motune •
Vic got a taste for journalism as an undergraduate when he edited Manchester University’s student newspaper Mancunian. In 1993 he joined the BBC and later produced the much loved Radio 4 magazine programme Woman’s Hour, the consumer affairs show You and Yours, and Parkinson On Sport for BBC Radio 5 Live. Vic devised and produced the Corporation’s critically acclaimed radio show Word Up, which catered for Britain’s Afro/Caribbean community. He was also one of the guiding hands behind the long running series Asian Perspective. After the success of Word Up Vic went freelance winning two prestigious honours along the way. He scooped a Race In the Media Award as Specialist Magazine Journalist of the year, and was honoured by the mental health charity MIND for his coverage of mental health issues. In 1999 Vic joined the black British newspaper The Voice and broke a number of excusive stories, including the alleged lynching of two black men in Shropshire. The coverage and campaigns that followed the story’s publication earned the paper an EMMA award in 2000.
Vic is now a senior producer for Colourful Radio, Britain’s newest digital talk radio station, but he still finds the time in his busy schedule to write articles for The Voice and The Guardian. He also presents a radio news review slot for BBC London, is a current affairs analyst for the ITV News, and regularly reviews newspapers for Sky News, and the independent radio station LBC.
