Kavita Photo-Kavita Maharaj


Kavita Maharaj is a senior media management consultant with Magnus Communications who has shaped the company’s business strategy and new business development. Before consulting for MC, Kavita Maharaj was a senior anchorwoman with the renowned business news channel CNBC. She anchored European Closing Bell, the channel’s prime-time show celebrated for its in-depth analysis and perspective on the day’s major financial and economic issues.

Kavita has interviewed hundreds of the world’s most powerful and influential decision makers including the former US Treasury Secretary John Snow, and Jean Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank.

Prior to her role at CNBC, Kavita worked as a TV anchor/editor for Bloomberg and as a producer for NBC News in New York. It was in New York that Kavita’s contributions to several high profile stories earned her Associate Producer credits for both an EMMY nomination and a prestigious GRACIE AWARD.  Last year, the World Leadership Forum formally recognized her achievements in financial news broadcasting, when she became the first woman in the organization’s history to be nominated for its prestigious Business Broadcast Journalist of the Year Award.

In 2005 although she relinquished her gruelling broadcasting commitments to pursue a Part-Time MBA, she has still maintained close links with CNBC working with its Sales Department on projects to develop new revenue streams and editorial content for programs funded by advertisers.

Kavita is one of a select group of ambassadors for Prince Charles’ Prince’s Trust, where she has mentored ethnic minority youngsters who want to break into the media. She is also a Fellow of the RSA, and in 2001 was a finalist at the Asian Woman of Achievement Awards under the patronage of Cherie Blair QC.

Kavita holds a BSc Econ (Hons.) degree from the London School of Economics and a Masters degree in Broadcast Journalism (magna cum laude) from the University of Miami, Florida. She completed her MBA at London's Imperial College in 2006.
